US Visa Cambodia

The Immigration and Nationality Act of the United States of America can be a very complex and often confusing piece of legislation. This is due to the fact that it has been amended and interpreted on a regular basis thereby contorting the Act in such a way as to change its practical applications. Cambodia has a long and complicated history. The Kingdom of Cambodia was once referred to as Kampuchea. In recent years the Kingdom has undergone a great deal of change as the small nation attempts to find its place in the global community. However, the road to Cambodia’s recovery has been long and arduous. Many visitors to Cambodia find it difficult to believe that at one time the Kingdom was the scene of great political unrest. It would seem that Cambodia is becoming another tourist locale in South East Asia, but from an economic standpoint, the country still has many obstacles ahead.

Some Americans who visit Cambodia meet the love of their life in the little paradise. For those who wish to bring their Khmer loved one back to the United States an American visa is necessary.

Presently, there are three visa categories widely utilized by those Americans wishing to assist their Cambodian loved one with admission to the USA. The K1 visa remains a popular travel document for those US Citizens with a Cambodian fiance. However, these visas are not advisable for those who have a Cambodia spouse. If a US Marriage Visa is being sought then, at present, the best way of getting such a travel document is by applying for a CR1 visa or IR1 visa. These visas confer lawful permanent residence upon entry, but the CR1 visa only confers such status conditionally. Finally, there are some who look into the K3 visa. Unfortunately for those interested in the K3 category, at the time of this writing, the K3 visa application is being “administratively closed” by the National Visa Center (NVC) where the underlying I-130 has already been adjudicated. 

United States Immigration is not always a hassle-free endeavor. Furthermore, the rules and regulations seem to be in a constant state of change.
